We at GCC would like to thank the Celtic fans for their joyful and peaceful celebrations yesterday. As with any mass gatherings, there will inevitably be some litter and rubbish left on the streets. We would like to thank the Brazen Head pub for their assistance last night.

Police Scotland statement following celtic supporters gathering in Glasgow

Following the gathering of celtic supporters in the Glasgow Cross area today, Saturday, 14 May 2022, Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, Divisional Commander for Greater Glasgow Division, said:
"Police Scotland is a human rights-based organisation that puts our values of integrity, fairness, respect and a commitment to upholding human rights at the heart of everything we do.
“This afternoon thousands of celtic supporters gathered in the area of Glasgow Cross to celebrate their team’s achievement. A proportionate policing plan was in place which facilitated the gathering, prioritised public safety and sought to minimise disruption to businesses and communities.
“While there was an unacceptable level of anti-social behaviour and littering there were no serious incidents or disorder.
"There were some outbreaks of minor disorder and our officers acted swiftly and robustly to prevent escalation and protect safety. Over the course of the evening there were six arrests for offences including assault and acts of public disorder. A further four people were issued with fixed penalty notices."

No mention of the criminal damage then

Looking forward to reading about the bill for the clean up exercise, the toll it’s taken on those poor street cleaners having to work another full day cleaning streets on only triple time, and in particular, the repair bill as a result of  breaking and entering, then vandalising an Historic Scotland Category B listed building.
No doubt the fixing of the odd bench wrecked during the 55 celebrations will cost more than the highly skilled restoration works at the illegally occupied Mercat Cross.

You may recall the bench was replaced by Bears .The replacement was crowd funded and paid for within a few hours of the fund being set up .

Should fire in a FOI request around clean up and damage costs.

Waste of time as the snp refuse them daily. Think they have a full department set up just to say NO and anything they do release gets heavily redacted so as not to tell anyone any information.

The double standards are obvious for everyone to see.

Pathetic but sadly no real surprise.

Win on Wednesday and the outrage will be back .Those reporting and those in office won’t even care that parts of the city were trashed yday and they largely ignored it .
