They absolutely were until Abramovich era.

think it’s safe to say so were a lot of teams, including Arsenal and they’re just not anymore with 15 years of irrelevance or european pedigree, then there’s: Trophies, Revenue, Club valuation, global fanbase, shirt sales, social media all with one clear winner due to those 20 years of quite fast-tracked but unparalleled success. Think if you can’t even reluctantly accept that then the red sunglasses are firmly on.

By those definitions we aren't a big club.

Man City are still a diddy club. When you’re the richest club in the world with a superstar squad and manager, and still barely sell out a 40k stadium you’re a diddy club.

In some regards we aren’t, still up there in terms of actually attending fan base and a long history sure but our league is that low level that the gaps only going to get bigger and bigger each decade that passes.

Even teams like Ajax who probably play in a better league and have been a far more successful European team than Rangers are dropping lower as time passes simply due to financial success.

I get where you’re coming from but say the likes of Chelsea win another couple champions league titles this decade when does the cut off start and end for what counts as beig a historic club or not?
