Some of the suggestions I’ve seen banded about in this thread are wild, absolutely fucking wild. Do people realise it’s not 2015 and we aren’t on our knees as a club anymore?

We're not far away from it if we fail to win the league

He won’t exactly be leaving us on a high while we’re flying. We’ve been plodding along well below par for the whole season. If it’s anyone half decent, the new manager bounce might be enough to get us over the line as far as the league is concerned

Was pessimistic at the start of these rumours, but this is the way I'm thinking now.

Been about 7 results so far this season which haven't been good enough and its only November.

Biggest worry is the run of fixtures through to Christmas that a new manager will have in his first couple of months of managing us.

Don’t understand the move. Chance at champions league proper vs a relegation battle.

Villa aren't a relegation side. He already has a squad there that he can turn around and move up the table with. As for Champions League, there's no denying that Ibrox on a CL night is far, far more special than anything he'll experience at Villa, but Villa will be playing CL calibre teams every few weeks in that league.

Aye, he delivered 55, but there's multiple flaws to SG as a manger and this season, once again, he's looked a bit lost for ideas at times. Think he's cashing in his chips and getting that EPL move. And to hell with us.

He said a few weeks ago he was settled and happy not too ask stupid questions, he then said on Sunday, all he was focused on was a cup semi final and it was the most important thing to discuss right now.

if he now leaves after all the he’s a disgrace.

Doesn't change anything, but when you look back now with the benefit of hindsight  he actually deflected the question and didn’t answer it. Every chance he was never a real contender for the Newcastle job

In London talking to Villa. Sky reporting he's interested. ITK poster on FF claiming it's been a cert since Sunday. Bookmakers have him on stupid odds, journalists in England all seem certain he's off.

Fs what a shambles man

Just had a quick gander at the Villa fans forum, they don't seem overjoyed at the choice of SG

Dean Smith was ‘one of their own’ and basically got punted as they couldn’t win without Grealish.

I can see why they would be underwhelmed by SG and entourage as even if he is successful (finishes 7th) Klopp contract is up in 2024, he will fuck off and join them.

If he isn’t successful and ends up in a relegation dogfight then what was the point of getting rid of Smith?

Have the same view.

However like most he'll spout whatever he needs to to keep the fanbase on-side. The offer probably wasn't on the plate weeks ago? I do believe this club means a lot to him. The family plays a bit part, might work well for his whole team to be in the Midlands?

He's gave us a decent run, there's been times when we've stuck by him when he could have been booted, he came to do one thing essentially and he did it, he hasn't over-achieved and arguably given the same funds and timescale others may have achieved greater things?

The timing is terrible, but we've got a good squad that have been together for a while and know the job in hand, some old heads in Davis, Shagger, Arfield and Tav etc who can keep everything in perspective. We're in a decent position in all fronts, the next month is massive though and will possibly make or break the season.

However getting fucked out of the cups means little in the grand scheme of things as the League has to be the focus.

Exactly, players are used to comings and goings it comes with the territory.

We are a different proposition now and will lure a good manager, no probs.

Lets face it, all we need to do is beat a 56  yr old Aussie with a wafer thin squad of midgets. We have the biggest and best squad and the players know their role in the system, having done it for 3 years.

In any other league a decent manager would jump at the chance to take on a team at the top of the league and the prospect of winning trophies, a team struggling to avoid relegation not so much. Funny old world.

Shows the power of the Premier League over us eh...

We better be starting our own processes of looking for a replacement now. We can’t afford to sit shout twiddling our thumbs for the next few days waiting for this to be confirmed.

I’d like to think we would have started. Wilson should have a list of names ready to go in case anything happened.
