The corners

What the fuck was that. Surely a team so poor of them would want someone back to get the inevitable clearance to restart the attack?

From defensive point of view its inexplicable.

Yilmaz needs taken off them his deliveries are appalling

Totally agree. Could spot it a mile away and it’s ultimately what cost us.

Said to the boy beside me we were very high at corners early doors

Seems a ploy that they bring everyone back then attack at speed with an easy ball over the top

No doubt we got suckered

Our corners in general are poor and offer little threat with little variation other that trying to get it past the 1st man

Looks like Clement had decided he didn't want extra time and penalties.

Why else would you take such a gamble?

We need more variety at corners and to be set up so were picking up the majority of headed clearances.

We have sucked at Corners for years now. Surely to fuck its something we should be looking at especially with the physical side and size of some of our players.

Yup been happening for years, one minute we are in possession at a corner next the opposition are on our doorstep causing mayhem, last nights was particularly swift right enough only took seconds to do the damage.

We are fucking rubbish at corners - used to have hope with Katic or Goldson attacking the ball but not now.

Every corner against us gives me the fear, too many of our players are guilty of ball watching and leaving players unmarked.

Definitely needs working on.

H&H saying Phil didn’t want a set piece coach as he believed he was competent enough himself. I think this is the wrong approach by him and it’s clear we’re really poor at them. I trust in Phil in most things but believe he has this wrong and to be competent at anything is knowing your own level and when to bring others in. I hope he gets some other input during the international break.

Read a stat somewhere this week that out of over 240 set pieces we have scored 8 goals and 3 of them were from corners.
Seems we have a stat we need to be working overtime on.

If it was the one posted on FF the boy said he made it up.

im not sure if that was the exact numbers he used but they seem round about that.

the % of goals scored from corners is absolutely minuscule btw with only a few teams bucking the trend. I want to say something like 5% leads to goals but I actually think it’s less than that.

We get well over the average of corners a team usually gets per game though mate. We will probably have over 10 again today and there’s a good chance they’ll all be shite

With Clement admitting he likes set-pieces and will not bring in a specialist, I'm hopeful he just hasn't had time to implement his ideas because it feels like nothing has changed for years.

  • Corners:  Usual utter crap, the old one hand held above the head, sometimes two hands, by Tav or Yilmaz/Barasic and all too often it doesn't clear the first defender. Every single corner should be whipped into the 6 yard box with pace, right into the danger zone. with runners near post and back.  Our corners are truly awful.
  • Free kicks: Our free kicks have lacked creativity for years, too.  Fair enough, if it's in range let Tav have a ping, he's proven he's more than capable. But the rest, surely we can come up with a few fresh ideas.  Maybe quick thinking, quick freekicks, maybe some runners.  Anything to mix it up.
