There is no justification at all in the current climate to offer him an extention. Nothing against him personally. Done well for us in patches but he is not capable of staying fit and is on high wages with low sell on value. Better to free them up and move forward with a better trading model. Was a gamble that paid off for a period but has been a busted flush in last 18 months.

The most natural , instinctive striker we've got , and something we've missed with the chances we've created.

Sadly his injury situation should mean no extension , but if he does manage to stay fit for the rest of the season he'll score goals .

2 goals in 619 minutes (transfermrkt). I’m pretty sure in those 619 minutes a natural, instinctive striker would have scored more than two goals with the chances we’ve created.

what if he was to stay fit for the remainder of the season, scoring a barrel load of goals, helping to secure the treble, would people be against him being offered a 6 month extension, with caveats inserted stating if he breaks down again then everything is over, but if he stays fit and keeps scoring, then another 6 month extension next Jan?

He's not reliable enough. If he managed a miracle few months then it simply means he will be able to leave with his head held high.

I have sympathy for him, but I suspect he'll be injured again before the end of the season unfortunately. We can't afford to have that level of wage sitting in the stand for huge chunks of the season.

I'm of the same opinion, just interested to see what the general consensus is amongst us.

Apparently if he scored a hatrick every weekend until the end of the season he still wouldn’t be worth a contract.

We haven’t seen a hatrick against that lot since McCoist but we have decided a player who scores a hatrick in each of what will probably be 3 old firms before the end of the season wouldn’t be worth a contract

Btw if he pulled that off I’d be in favour of just giving him a full years wage as a bonus

If by 'We' you mean one single person then sure.

No one else has said that.

With that caveat, yes. However, if he’s scoring a barrel load of goals and we don’t offer him a contract of one or two years, someone else will.

Pointless, hypothetical scenario tbh.

His entire career pretty much is an example of why it simply won’t happen in any case.
