What a referee all his piss poor decision making is forgiven.

He likely only did that due to the fuck up earlier where he pulled it back for a foul when Tav had advantage and was away on the edge of the box in space.

Another bizarre example of a (non) decision that will be overturned in the same fixture later in the season through VAR. Equally, Alfie’s is offside for his goal so it would have been ruled out

Madness isn’t it.

The ball came off Arfield mate by which time Morelos was well onside

Arfield doesn't touch it. The defender running back gets a toe on it but not sure if Morelos is still offside due to that. Think he is as it's the same passage of play.

The ball was played back across the box and if as you say it was the defender it doesn't matter if Alfie is offside or not. 5 defenders and a goalie and not one of them appealed for offside says it all

Aye wasn't sure with the new first wave second wave pish.

Edit. Ah ok so you're saying the ball was played back and not forward so it's irrelevant where he is.

He wasn't offside, the ball (which was played BACK by Matondo btw) came off a defender and ran to Alfie who scored

VAR doesn't chop that off as it's 100% not offside

The ball in was played backwards so Alfie coming back from an offside position to score is irrelevant. Thats how I saw it anyway.

Nothing in the rule about direction of travel. The ball only has to be touched.

If the ball is cut back then the player it is cut back to must have been behind the ball and player who cut it back, at the time of the pass. Therefore, it can’t be offside.

As an example, 2 players have broken through against the keeper. One with the ball is further ahead, draws the keeper out of position, then cuts it back to the other to score. No defenders within 20 yards. It’s a goal, no offside, even though there aren’t two defending players between scorer and the goal at the time of the pass.

edit: I suppose there is the possibility of an exception where a ball is cut back, and the other attacker was in front of the passing player then takes a step or two back to get the ball. But, as long as the receiver was behind the passing player, he can’t be offside.

Wrong. As an example, Morelos wasn't.
