The crux of the matter though probably boils down to exactly what was said. Everyone will have their own opinions, truth is we know fuck all because we weren’t there. However, regardless of what was said even if it was extreme Murty was a player for long enough to know that what happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room. He should have been man enough to hand out any punishments himself, if they were justified, without the involvement of hierarchy.

You absolutely can manage like that still if you’re successful. 

Quite a number of high profile managers have no issue with hanging players out to dry if need be and quite rightly. If you do this when the fans don’t support you it’s not going to work though

I think you’re right to an extent but even if you’re successful it can still happen in this day and age of player power. Players can chuck a manager under the bus within weeks if they want to, look at Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea players had had enough of him. Conte comes in and they win the league. They then get the hump with Conte so down tools after winning the league (plus some shite decisions in the transfer market ) and finish outside the top four. Leicester players have done it with a few managers now as well.
