Gerrard bottled it

  • We changed a winning formation in the biggest game of our season so far to play an unfamiliar formation the players were clearly uncomfortable with.
  • Not having a genuine winger meant we didn't have width or an outball when they chose to pressure us high up the pitch. This is probably the big one. We couldn't stretch them or get the ball up the pitch in any other way than booting it up.
  • We set up with five midfielders seemingly to try and nullify Christie and Forrest, with Kamara and Flanagan doubling up on the latter and the former chased down by the other three. Instead of being confident, we chose to be fearful of them. You could literally see them suss this out at about the 20-25 minute mark and begin to grow more confident themselves. Wrong mentality.
  • Booting the ball up to a 5'7 Defoe and hoping for second-balls off him when their defender is 6'5. Alternatively, dropping Morelos for Defoe and then playing in a way that Defoe is completely ill-suited for.
  • Putting Ojo on when he was clearly fucked from Thursday and apparently has bruising instead of Jones.
  • Shoehorning Aribo in when he is clearly exhausted and has been off it the past few games.

Any more?

This is pretty much spot on.

Gerrard bottled fuck all.  He got it badly wrong today granted and hopefully that's the last time we fail to go for the jugular against these unwashed cunts from the first whistle.

But he's got bottle in spades and will rise to the challenge against Lemon any day.

Just not today though eh?

he bottled it it because he set us up defensively. That’s how not to play against that lot.

Bang on , press high , put pressure on they buckled , absolute no sign of that today at all

The worst part, is that is what they done to us in the first half.

We has zero width to counter their press with no winger to play the outball too.

Management screwed it big time with the team selection today.

The 2 nil game last season was the template that should not have been tampered with, he was schooled by Lennon today.

Na mate, he wasn’t schooled at all. Not at all.  Lennon set them up exactly as would have thought. No surprises. Lennon didn’t beat us today

We however, beat ourselves. Namely, Gerrard with his tactics, and the message that sent to the players, beat us.

We cowered to them and that’s completely unacceptable.

Morelos and Jones should have started and if he couldn’t trust Morelos today then we need to sell him.

He also fkd up the sub bringing Ojo on instead of Jones (was this another Worral situation, I fkn hope not)

Should have tried a short corner to change the angle of the ball.

The only good thing is that no cunt wins the league four games in but fkn awful.

Maybe they’ll think they have enough to win the league but we still need a left back and another striker, and also Kent but I think this is a wish list on my part

Barisic is good enough, but today Flanagan was immense in snuffing Forrest. For my money it's put Flanagan on the right and he will be even better. Tav's had his day. Been a mare since returning this season for all the reasons I've said on other threads.

Another striker and Kent yes, but the passing competition at the back needs to end and the midfield need to actually provide forward passes and feed the front men. We are so ponderous, paint dries quicker than is getting box to box.

Foster will be bringing his iPhone in goal with him next time, so he can send texts to stop him from falling asleep.

He wasn’t “schooled by him” at all but he did play into their hands and he got it wrong. Schooled is far wrong though ffs.

Its not the first time hes done it either. The tactics he played on Thursday were exactly the same as today . That mob on Thursday could have played for a month and never scored against us and we go out and play defensively. The mob we played in the previous round were a far better side. We should have played the high tempo, quick passing and attacking in numbers against shite like that at Ibrox , the goal in injury time saved his arse big time.

When I seen he was starting with Davis Kamara and Jack in the middle you knew exactly how the game was going to go. Thats one of the worst pape sides I have ever seen and we should have destroyed them today. No good blaming the players here , the manager set them out to sit back and be defensive.

No chance! He'll probably drop Defoe and squeeze Andy King in for next game. Surely can't go wrong with another midfielder?!

No doubt! The money we spent on helander, plus the wages of barker and Stewart for 6 years(  3 years each) could nearly have bought us Kent!

Spot on about Goldson, dwells on the ball for far to long.

Superstar in his own mind on the ball, mind folk on here not too long ago claiming he was miles better than Katic on the ball

His passing is woeful as well, absolutely sick of seeing him attempt that diagonal ball to no one

Against better players hes an accident waiting to happen but the manager thinks hes the best defender in the team.

Should be dropped and try the other two with Katic........

People really sticking the boots into Ojo, Aribo & Arfield today. Who should have played instead - Docherty? Stewart? The team were simply exhausted from an emotional win against Legia.

And Jones has gone from the whipping boy to Ronaldo in a matter of weeks. He is a 6 out of 10 player.
