Revisionism regarding Gerrard

Can we stop acting like it wasn't obvious we needed a change at the time we got one? Gerrard won us the league and I'll be forever grateful, but it was obviously time to go. Btw he isn't pulling up any trees in Birmingham, we'd have probably been in a similar position. We were trending down. 

 

I'm still definitely in support of our current manager but he NEEDS to win the semi final and have a strong league finish for majority of Rangers fans to not turn against him.

Can you post a link to the thread you started just before he left where you told us it was obvious we needed a change at that time.

As far as I’m concerned, it was the timing that was the issue, not so much the fact that he left.

Gerrard took us as far as he could, especially under the current farcical recruitment approach. However, I don't believe our decline would have been as dramatic and we would have at least been in with a chance of winning the league. The number of players that have downed tools wouldn't have happened under Gerrard.

Gerrard needed to show drive and hunger this season and cement the progress of last season. He totally failed and the complacency from him and his big players was obvious . We gift wrapped the league to a very average celtic team and that's unforgivable, as was the timing of his departure.

Back the manager / don't back the manager is irrelevant. GVB signed a 3 & 1/2 year contract 5 months ago... he's going nowhere next season unless he chooses to walk. 

Europe aside, for the rest of this season our focus should be making sure they cunts don't get their 5th treble in 6 years.

If the season goes where most of us expect it to from here on in the board probably won't have a choice but to sack him

I'm not sure we go into the winter break with as large a lead if Gerrard was still here tbh. I think people are forgetting how poor we were at the start of this season.

To merit a sacking from THIS board he needs to fuck up royally next season, our European results since he took over will have given him a lot of grace from the boardroom.

Otherwise its a mutual agreement with a payout which frankly we can't afford with a full rebuild looming.

 

Pre 2012 finishing second and losing old firm games would have been a sackable offense for a Rangers manager,  sadly its not the case these days.

The questioning over what Gerrard would do and wouldnt do is irrelevant. He left us - not the other way about. In fact we gave him priority in the summer which was against the clubs plans and he still fucked off.

He and the management team clearly had the perfect plan against celtic as seen in August so I can see why the comparisons are being made just now.

However, what is becoming obvious is that the squad of players he built and Gio inhereted pick and choose when they want to turn up. Both managers have made mistakes but this seasons pattern is the exact same as 19/20. We'd won 16/20 games which before then had only be done 3 times in a 34+ game season by the club. Then following that good first half we dropped off massively to 50% in both seasons.

Two managers, roughly the same squad with the same results. Now either both managers are not that good or the turnover of players is more than due. I suspect the latter and I think Gio deserves to have the chance to show it.
