Optimism

Positive threads often fall flat or get panned in the wake of a truly bad performance, there’s really not much to be positive about regarding last night. When you take the Livi performance into account it looks bad at the moment. I’m posting this just to counteract all the (understandably) negative threads.

Aribo/Bassey/Morelos/Kent were all absent obviously, and our new signings have barely played. For that reason there’s bound to be an adjustment period. I think Gio also has to suss out how he’s going to use the squad and where everyone fits in. I’m not a tactics guy so I can’t comment on what he got right or wrong last night, but overall I’d think he’ll assess whatever wasn’t working and get it sussed (hopefully quickly).

As I’ve said loads of times on here football is often surprising and things can change quickly. We have a very strong squad, though the new guys have to prove themselves clearly.

Personally I’m not going to worry too much yet, the next game or the game after that may change things significantly, things may click very quickly.

If anyone has any optimistic thoughts on the next few weeks, slam them in here because I for one would like to read them.

I’m optimistic about the season. I think domestically we will do very well.  Unfortunately this will take time, and I fear the next two games will see progress that is slow but steady, but too slow to overturn the qualifier.

Not a lot to be optimistic about but I do think getting Yilmaz in from the start will make a difference. 

It looks to me like Borna causes uncertainty and nervousness in his teammates when the ball is on that flank, both in attack and defence and that's when mistakes are made. 

Fwiw, I think we'll scud killie and turn the usg tie around but psv/monaco will put us out unless we get our shit together really quickly.

Half joking aside.

I've no doubt we will improve significantly as the players bond, they understand systems better, injured players cone back etc. No doubt at all.

But I'll temper that with concerns around our attitude and tempo. For me they're up and down like a whores drawers. I hope for consistency but don't fully expect it. 

So yes we'll get better performances in the weeks ahead. But will possibly drop points and lose more games than is acceptable before we get there.

Really good post Scotty, yes we were all annoyed with last night but I just cannot take part in the negative stuff we have had since well before the final whistle. I do accept that everyone reacts differently. 

I must admit the VAR penalty decision was hellish and makes the return more difficult, BUT I certainly believe we can turn it round.  

Just need to beat Killie well on Sat first.

I am looking forward to the new coach Ceri Bowley coming in who apparently has a PhD in sports psychology and coaching science from Cardiff Metropolitan University. I have always felt we could do more with the psychological side of some of our players.

Was raging last night and still was this morning but looking forward to the killie game on Saturday and then the challenge of turning this tie on its head on Tuesday. If we are successful in our next 2 games then everything changes again.

If I'm honest, I can't be too optimistic, a new goalkeeper is required for a start, can't believe we haven't addressed this and if roofe is not to be trusted another centre forward won't go wrong either.

We are missing Kent and Morelos badly imo. Morelos is our best goal scorer in Europe and they chip in with a lot of assists between them. Kent should be back soon, so that is a positive.

The new guys are taking a while to gel. Looked good in the friendlies but haven't impressed me in the competitive matches so far.

I think we will just about scrape through the upcoming matches but don't expect us to hit the highs we did last season for a month or two. 

Nervy times ahead imo.
