He takes so much pressure of the defenders when he can come out and collect crosses. Good reactions and has made some fabulous saves already. Could well be a fabulous signing. Still young for a goalkeeper so plenty of years ahead of him.

Jack Butland has called on Rangers to summon the spirit of Bill Struth as they look to spook PSV.

The Dutch giants have been installed as favourites to reach the Champions League in the second leg in Eindhoven and gain revenge for last year’s upset after rescuing a 2-2 draw at Ibrox on Tuesday. But new No.1 Butland has warned those rushing to write off his team ahead of Wednesday’s return clash to think again.

The keeper revealed how boss Michael Beale dipped into legendary Gers gaffer Struth’s catalogue of quotes as he delivered his stirring team talk in the build-up to Tuesday’s first-leg clash. And with those words still ringing in his ears, he’s now told Peter Bosz’s Eredivisie outfit that Rangers are ready to repeat that famous victory of 12 months ago and clinch a £20million golden group-stage ticket. The Ibrox shot-stopper said: “People like to write Rangers off. The great Mr Struth said that himself.

“People write us off, they forget we’re Rangers. If people want to write us off, if they want to call them favourites, so be it.

“But we’re looking forward to the tie. We walk past [the Struth quote] every day at the training ground, we walk past it at the stadium.

“I’ve looked into it. Of course, when I signed I looked into the history but this is a quote we walk past every day. The manager showed it to us again on Tuesday.

“It’s something people expect of us but people also like to write us off. So do that if you will. We’ve got to go there and do the right job. We’ve put ourselves in a good position to do so. It could have been a little bit better, it could have been worse. But we go there off a confident performance.”

Butland admits he can already feel the weight of history dragging down on his shoulders every time he pulls on a Gers jersey. But it’s a burden he’s more than happy to bear as he seeks to write his own name into the club’s storied annals.

“You can’t get away from it here,” he said. “No matter where you walk in the building, at the training ground, there are pictures of cup final wins, league wins, European nights. The trophy room.

“You can’t get away from winning at Rangers so for us it’s a constant with the club. The point of being here, and why I want to be here, is to be a part of that history and to win as well.

“You can’t get away from it. And you feel it. The reason why the atmosphere is like it was on Tuesday night is because they have been there and done it before.

"They know what it’s like and they know how special it is to get in the Champions League and to get to European finals. Hopefully we can do just that.”

We've absolutely knocked it off with this pair.

Must admit I doubted Butlands ability before we signed him, but he's proved a lot of us wrong so far. 

He's definitely been 1 of our best players so far this season.

Aye same here. Part of that came from not really knowing that he has a really presence/character about him. Been good so far.

Nonsense, was one of the best.

Perhaps your thinking of post-injury, he did seem to lose his confidence in that area of his game somewhat.

One thing about Butland is he showed real desire to come here and backed himself as he could have probably sat as third choice at Man U and earned a lot more money.

Butland and Cantwell have really bought into us which is great.

They remind me of some of the top players we used to buy back in the 90/00s. Rather than be afraid of the shirt and crowd they are desperate to get out there and show us how good they are.  Early days for both but for me, they embody the mentality you need and what it means to be a Rangers player.

Yes, they are they are good with the media as well and can handle themselves on the pitch. Yes a strong mentality is everything, you see some players wilt under the pressure.

Yeah, loved how relaxed and confident Butland sounded after the PSV game as well. Not sure if him and Cantwell are amazing at media or whether we've just been hit with pish from the others for so long

Yes, we needing to stop rolling players out after a defeat to repeat the same old dirge we have all heard it and nothing changes, must piss them off as I'm sure they will be gutted as well.
