Shankland missed 3 out of 6 penalties that have an xG of 0.75. Good strikers outperform their xG. Although it's interesting that last season Haaland had 27 goals from an xG of 31.65 so they also miss plenty chances as well and getting in the positions to score is just as important. The amount of times he takes what would/could be an easy chance and turns it into a more difficult one by cutting back or poor footwork etc Same with when you think just lay it off first time rather than take 3 touches then the assist has gone. All round contribution was above average. Took his goal well. We move on and see what he does at the weekend. He's not currently our biggest problem, but for sure he can't be our #1 striker either, unless he has a streak and becomes prolific. He misses plenty but his numbers are far better than many think. Even when we hopefully bring in Shankland I would still keep Dessers as he offers something different and provides options. I’m more concerned with players like Wright still starting important matches who have been nowhere near good enough for seasons now.
