Rangers Statement: European Super League

Boooo, we should be looking to get in on this plan. It's bold, it's innovative and will bring in funds we can only dream of. Given the corruption we know exists in uefa and fifa, why not try and break away from all that?

Solidarity with the 'football family', where was the Solidarity when we had our issues in 2012? Lets look out for ourselves and a super league like this is exactly what we need.

You clearly haven't read anything about the super league or understand what impact it would have on us.

Be shite biting the hand that feeds us for all of this to not get off the ground though.

I think it just sounds like a lot of fake news alarmism. Anything that challenges the status quo is always going to be challenged and a lot of nonsense will always be spouted.

Currently 96 teams can qualify for Europe every season.

The Super League has only 64 teams, with 44 of these guaranteed access regardless of domestic performance.

So that means we go from a world where 96 spots are up for grabs every season based on league performance to 20, so our ability to even get into it drastically diminishes.

It's also very unlikely the teams in the Blue league would earn more money than the CL, it would likely be less. The money will be for the very top teams, so the gap between us and them would widen even more. They've only added in more teams to try and get it through approvals, but it will result in countries like England having 10-15 clubs in Europe at the expense of countries like ours.

This is also ignoring the fact this would guarantee our club never wins a European trophy ever again.

Wouldn't surprise if they eventually found a way of jettisoning the lower end clubs, years down the line

They will, absolutely.

The same way they said streaming all games will be free, give it a year or two and it won't.

The vast majority of CL money is from TV revenue. If TV revenue is suddenly £0, where is this drastic increase in money coming from?

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Yes wait until it matures then all aboard.

Pretty much, if it was a sure thing absolutely certain to take off and backed by all, then sure. I'd think we'd have probably took our cues from the rest of football.

Like we've done here, no one going to play there, so we ain't coming.

Best thing that could happen for football would be if these so called “elite” clubs all fucked off and formed their own competition, would make the competitions left behind far more interesting.

Great shout. Wonder how much money would be involved in the competition no one wants to watch other than the fans of the clubs involved.

Let’s be honest, most would still watch it

That's no honest at all. You're telling me a neutral is watching benfica v feyanoord on bein sports when there's a man u v psg on sky sports at the same time?

There's a reason the so called non elite clubs want fuck all to do with this mate.

A know ye like a bit a controversy but your miles off it if you think even us versus a semi big name in Europe draws in the type of views a sponser or channel needs for the competition to be worth while to us.

We would be financially fucked if the champions league/Europa went to the pits
