Bad Robot 21,512
I’m thinking Flanagan will be moved over to the right and Tav moved up to give more midfield options (and wingback cover) but was Stevie G MBE too quick to give him the captains armband and will he drop a captain if he starts to make too many mistakes (which should apply to any player under performing)? Is Tav an automatic first pick?
Popular Post Dan Deacon 55,717
I think he's worth a shot up top. We're now good at the back but still short of a striker. It'll save us forking out for Lafferty as well. Shrewd stuff. MattyBlue, BlueCafu1872, ForeverAndEver and 2 others
Laudrup1690 1,064
Wish people would stop with the pish, wether you like it or not he’s our captain and first choice r.b simple as that unless he had a dramatic loss of form. flanagan will be there to challenge and rotate for l.b and r.b graeme_4, whatnobeer, jackrfc95 and 1 other

RDFM 3,809
He should player right back or not at all. Every game where he’s been moved up he’s been average at best. His game comes from deep running and receiving the ball in space.
simplythebestest 2,148
Tav is capable of putting in some right delicious balls into the box. I can't help but think he'd be great on the wing, but that's probably why I'm not a manager.
SeparateEntityMyArse 54,292
Think Tav will retain his RB place in a back 4 or back 5 due to his offensive play. I'd imagine the gaffer wants similar on the left from the new lad. I'd say Flanagan is most at risk of not getting a starting slot. But if we play a back 5 against some teams ie scum / Europe Flanagan will slot into the right of the 3 CHs. Flanagan can cover right across the back line too. Good options to have. dougie76 and graeme_4

Why would you remove one of the most effective offensive threats you have to accommodate Flanagan? Defensively he's nowhere near as bad as some will have you believe, just an urban myth that's allowed to perpetuate by cherry picking on mistakes that nearly every player makes in a game but are generally ignored. Tav should start every game if fit. If it's 4-4-2 then he's right back. If it's 3-5-2 then he's right wing-back. Amato 3,035
We now have 5 strong options for the back (6 if you include John but I'm assuming his loan will go through). What a position to be in considering where we were last year. I can't see Flanagan not being a regular starter considering his pedigree. But then, I can't imagine who we would drop. Good times. JM1872 3,776
You only have to look at the goalscorers and assists thread for this season and in bygone seasons too.
Copland bear 7,966
I think he may put Flanagan in front of him in midfeild. I just can't see either being left out, Flanagan is far too good to be sitting on the bench as back up. But it's a good choice for the manager and proving the squad is improving 10 fold. Inigo 32,675
Think you'll find horses for courses. Also squad use and rottation, especially if we get to the group stages. Won't be as simple as players being moved to here or there permanently. Flanagan'll pop up in about 3 positions. Tav a couple. Barisic 3. Will look different from fame to game. DeanMK 4,792
We have great full-back cover and the option of switching between 3, 4 & 5 at the back quite easily. Tavernier will not be punted forward. Don't understand this fascination.
Mr Soprano 13,964
He's nowhere near effective offensively when he's moved further forward. He's so much better coming from deep. BlueMe

MasterD 7,446
He's an automatic pick. He can't play starting in the further forward positions. We don't need this discussion every day.
miracle 7,834
There's always the asymmetrical option with either Tav OR Barisic starting at wingback and Flanagan filling in the other side, depending on the weaknesses or strengths of our opposition. Ibroxholm 2,291
Captain, or not captain, no player should’ve an automatic choice in our team. Signing Barisic increases our options and the competition for places, if anyone is not doing it, they should be dropped including Tav. Courtyard Bear 41,357
Tav is an utter horseshit defender, Flanagan pisses all over him on that front anyone claiming Tav is a better defender is aff their nut. You want Tav to play he has to make himself a wide midfielder which he is more than capable of and can do us a job there.
