Minute's silence to be held at Old Firm in memory of those who lost their lives in the Ibrox Disaster

A MINUTE'S silence will be held at Saturday's Old Firm in memory of those who tragically lost their lives in the Ibrox Disaster.      

celtic FC confirmed on social media that the tribute will take place before the match at Ibrox Stadium. In a statement, the club said: "celtic FC has been informed that a minute's silence will be held prior to Saturday's match in memory of the victims of the Ibrox Disaster of 1971."

The Light Blues will mark the tragedy, which saw 66 Gers supporters lose their lives following a crush on Stairway 13. More than 200 people were also injured during the 1971disaster which was a crush among the crowd at an Old Firm game.

We reported this year that city planners had given the go-ahead for Rangers to build a memorial garden which features a tribute to those who lost their lives.

We can only hope that those not known for respecting fans who died whilst attending the club they loved can for once muster up 60 seconds worth of decency.

I remember a game around 5 or 6 years ago I was next to that lot in the govan front and I was amazed the amount of them who seemed to get a horrendous coughing fit right on the whistle to start the silence.

Everyone going to the game stand with head bowed and remember it could have been any of us of a certain age. I will never forget what happened that day, my Dad and uncle were fortunate to come home but not all families were as lucky as ours that day.

I wonder why Rangers has elected for news of this to come from sources other than from Rangers own news distribution channels.  I hope the mark of remembrance is respected by all those attending the game.   Would have preferred to have heard about this via an announcement from Rangers direct and not through third party sources.

Agree that fans shouldn’t be filming them, it is all about showing respects in the correct way.  Would be an idea though for the Club to have appropriate recording in place on the corner for the entire game to ensure that any repugnant behaviour is recorded.

If they start, I have no issue filming them as it’s no different to a sky / bt broadcast but without we have the emotional attachment. It’s better than booing or someone shouting out.

I would prefer this. I’m also sick of them smashing the seats and the toilets up with seemingly in action by the club apart from financing a repair. Our fans should’ve be doing that over at their midden either albeit it would probably give it a better look.

At least they have a small number of fans for the first time in many years and that will reduce whatever they do.

What we need to remember as a few have said, this is Rangers fans remembering the tragedy that affected Rangers fans and their families. To be honest I will not be thinking about what celtic fans will or will not be doing during the minutes silence, only about the Rangers fans who never returned home and the families who were left devastated.
