Davies, Yilmaz, Matondo, Cifuentes, Dessers and Lammers

Yilmaz not even in the euro squad and getting slaughtered. ☹️

But aye, our recruitment has been piss poor. Genuinely can't believe how shite some of these players are and their inability to even do the simplest of things correctly. Baffling. It's clear they don't have the mentality to play for Rangers.

How's that relevant?

Shocking recruitment. 11 players playing tonight signed since Seville. This squad is miles off the quality of even a few years ago.

That team would have walked this league against a very average celtic side.

To a man we are worse off in every position than we were 2 seasons back. With the exception of Butland

Never, ever worth £6 million.

Worrying thing is, the guy who scouted Matondo and latterly Yilmaz is now one of our main scouts.

Would say it's probably the going rate for someone of that pedigree these days

Davies -  Released Balogun and paid millions for him.  Got Balogun back on a free and the situation just now speaks for itself.

Yilmaz -  Can see what they were trying to do but clearly not going to work for him.

Matondo - As above.  Having his ‘redemption’ season purely because of how limited we are on width.

Cifuentes and Dessers - I can again see what they were doing but the stats should have been enough to raise alarm bells.  Would we really have done worse keeping Arfield and signing say, Shankland?

Lammers - gave him the benefit of the doubt but the guy must surely now never be in for a shout of starting for us again. The worst player we’ve had since the days of Pedro and that is still arguable.

Total neglect for our club from top to bottom and it starts in the boardroom

What can you see

£15m+ as well as a fortune on wages over the last 2 summers

How is it possible to spend that amount of money and get absolutely nothing in return?

Is this a retorical question?

If not then, by employing am inexperienced manager without a proper DoF to guide him and letting him buy players without proper due diligence.

Paying the price now. Our squad is no stronger than last season.

Was it 9 players in the summer?

or does that include raskin and Cantwell last jan?

mental why we can’t sign players of a higher or same level quality as we have had.

why do they find it so hard?

the best player we’ve had over the last month or so has been a laddie the manager has promoted.

says everything to me what the manager sees in these players.

The recruitment problem sadly goes back pre Beale. Ever since Wilson came in.

The players we’ve signed of real quality at one point or another Bassey, Kamara, Morelos, Kent, Goldson, Tav, Aribo etc were all identified and/or signed pre Wilson.

That’s going on 40 odd signings now with barely an above average signing. Tens of millions spent and not a player that would go for over 5 million.

There doesn’t look to be any cohesive strategy in who we sign or how we go about building a squad.

There doesn’t seem to be any “edge” we deploy in trying to identify value.

We’d be best off spending the next million paying a scout to come from one of the leading recruitment clubs of a similar size to us and building out the necessary infrastructure.

Yilmaz had potential and looked decent for Besiktas. Played well in the UCL.

Dessers had a decent record for Feyenoord and scored some big goals in their run to the Conference. Final.  I hopes he’s be a striker he simply isn’t.

Cifuentes was a gamble most people on here bought in to and has simply not worked. Looked good for LAFC.

There was a thing in tnt 2 right after the villa game the night  I think.

about Brighton.

they are the model club.

and funnily enough their DOF is  one Davie Weir.

I assume he’ll have others around him, but look what happens with a set up built over years.

quality after quality players getting bought for peanuts and sold for absolute loads. Whilst improving their standing year after year.

davie weir. DOF at Brighton.

Who’d have thought it when he was sacked along with warburton a few years ago?

I think that this has been the problem the last couple of years. You mentioned six players costing £15M which basically averages at £2.5M per player. Obviously it doesn't work out exactly that for each player but for me we have been going after numbers instead of quality hoping that they turn good. The splattergun approach as we used to call it and laugh about when Celtic were doing it.

You have to be very lucky with at least half of your signings if that is going to have any chance of working.

Would much rather we only got 2-3 quality signings instead of trying to change the whole team every year.
