First of all, vast majority of the time people are not making sweeping future predictions, they are commenting on the standalone performance they have just seen. Every time someone says someone played shit people chime in with the "written off" patter when nobody said anything of the sort. Second of all, Yilmaz has played close to 30 games for us over 2 seasons before his good run he's on now. Hardly a small number. Majority of players who are poor for 30 games or more (whether Ridvan was or not) are usually just poor players. I don't remember people wanting to persist with Pena, Herrera, Ian Black, Rob Kiernan, Dalcio or Zungu as if every player will just always come good eventually. That's all gone now - stats are poor, crossing awful, usually turns backward when he receives the ball.
