Rangers fans poke fun at Mark Warburton over Rangers anniversary

Recommended Posts

Mark Warburton has been celebrating three years as Rangers manager, according to his own LinkedIn page.

Users of the online professional network who were connected with the former Gers boss were asked to ‘Congratulate Mark Warburton on their work anniversary’ with the 55-year-old ‘celebrating 3 years at Glasgow Rangers FC’. It prompted much amusement among Rangers fans considering the complexities of his departure.

The former Brentford boss was relieved of his Rangers duties in bizarre circumstances in February 2017. Warburton told The Times in March this year that he only found out he and assistant Davie Weir had departed the club when he was watching Sky Sports News on a Friday night.

“I still don’t really know what happened,” he said. “I was watching Sky Sports and it came up on the yellow tickertape, ‘Mark Warburton resigns his position as manager of Rangers’. That was it. I phoned David Weir and said, ‘I think I’ve just been sacked’, and he said, ‘So do I because my name’s on the TV as well!’ We didn’t know anything about it, but soon got an email from the club saying, ‘We accept your resignation’.”

Rangers, in their statement confirming the management’ team’s departure, said that the coaching team’s representative “had wished to resign their positions and leave the club on condition that Rangers agreed to waive its rights to substantial compensation.

Rangers’ agreement to waive compensation would assist the management team to join another club”, believed to be Nottingham Forest. The club added: “The representative acting for the management team subsequently attempted to alter the terms of what had been agreed in favour of the management team. A further board meeting was held this afternoon to discuss this and it was decided not to agree to this additional request but to hold with the original agreement.”

The duo, as well as head of recruitment Frank McParland were shown the door with Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha coming in as replacement. Warburton and Weir would take over at Forest the following month. •

Yesterday I read a piece in the paper about Joey Barton getting the managerial job at Fleetwood and one of the first things he's done is make Clint Hill a coach there.  I honestly think his experience at the highest levels and innate competitiveness will give him a good shot at success when it comes to management.  Fleetwood's a small club and probably a good place to start.  I couldn't help but think of the fiasco after the 5-1 defeat last season and Warburton forcing him out of Rangers just a few weeks in to a 2 year contract.  Warburton's reputation as a manager now in tatters imagine if Barton goes on to achieve greater levels of success.  In hindsight, after that first 5-1 defeat, maybe we should've paid off Warburton and just put Barton in charge.

Normally I'm not too bothered with English football but I'm really intrigued to see how Jack Ross, Lampard, and Barton get on this year.  Reading about Jack Ross really makes me think we might've missed a great opportunity there but only time will tell.  If Gerrard is a disaster while Jack Ross goes on to be successful it'll be might it be a case of overlooking a talented young manager for a billboard name?  I also see Steve Clarke's pretty active in the transfer market and I do think he'll be looking to overtake Hibs and Aberdeen next season and establish Kilmarnock as a real force domestically.

Warburton's been found and his days of managing football teams is all but over.  I remember some suggesting Miller should've been put in charge as caretaker but Barton had more top level experience than anyone at the club not to mention a very competitive personality and desire to win.  If Barton does go on to have more success than Warburton it'll be a funny turn of events given what happened last season.

Total pretender the Magic Twat.

Tried to blag it with slick phraseology and buzz words but was exposed as a clueless cunt as soon as teams figured out how to unpick his one and only strategy.

Still, there's no doubt his bank balance is "in good shape" as opposed to "below the level he'd expect" after his little foray into football management.

More top level experience than 84 capped Croatian international Niko Kranjcar? Who played for a spurs team that got to the quarter final of the champions league.

Barton played for a string of relegation battlers and was POTY in the championship.
