James Sands

Lord Lockin

He done the difficult things very well and struggled with some basic passes.  Was a strange performance!  Better opposition would have punished some of the mistakes but tbh you could say the same about Mclaughlin (who is getting off lightly on here), Goldson and Lundstram off the top of my head.

He’s massively surprised me at how decent he’s been at centre half, I never expected him to cope aerially the way he has.

Stray passes look like stemming from trying too hard.

Went up in my estimations and will do a job, but time for Davies to step in. We spent a lot of money on him.

Had to make 3 recovery tackles from horrendous mistakes from team mates. First one was slightly mistimed with the booking but to put in the other 2 tackles to perfection whilst on a booking was superb.

Deserves huge credit for that alone.

This.

His speed of recovery (whether his own mistake or someone else’s) is superb and he got us out of a few holes last night.

Still pretty young too.

Sands is and will prove to be a good player for us. His ability to play in defence and midfield will prove crucial in a season where we will look to play 55-60 games at the very least. Despite his high transfer value he'll be on peanuts because he's still on his MLS homegrown contract, which is an added bonus.

I think he'll end up being revelation of the season like Bassey was last season. Gio has a real talent for improving players as we've seen with Bassey and Lundstram.
