Perhaps they really wanted Wilson in and tried everything they could. What happens if the next DoF turns us down? How long do we wait for a manager? Does the DoF job description cover hiring managers? DoF seems to mean different things to different people. I'm annoyed at the board because they've shat the bed and fucked it. We wait for a manager until we have a DoF, that's how it works, assuming the board would actually like any success. ForeverAndEver

Good players whatever their position don't magically fall of trees regardless who the manager is and if the board don't give him proper backing financially the standard of defender wont increase greatly, we will probably sign one, two, maximum three new defenders but I can see one or two (Wallace, Wilson or Tav) still starting next season., ritchieshearercaldow

TMB 14,167
Hiring someone like McLeish or McInnes would've been the safe bet, I agree. However, the board have shown balls and ambition going for this Mexican guy. If this works it'll be a master stroke. It'll be entertaining having this guy as manager ? Or he has come up in DoF interview process. To be honest it's surely likely to have been an interview question, who would you want as manger or something like it. 2. Someone part of the interview process fancies themselves as a bit of a hipster football manager type and is pushing from within. 3. The guy put his CV in and had a belter of an interview. For me the only worrying one is number 2. The others are for me a risk, but more calculated at least. The worrier in me does think we might have some leftfield board member trying to show he's down with the kids and came up with this guy at random. He's either a smokescreen or on his way. 169 pages of let's wait and see.. scenario 4, The board have secured Middle Eastern investment and they wanted their own manager in as part of the deal. GeeSS 512
Wilson has turned us down and is staying at Southampton! Think that was obvious since weekend when he asked for more time. Also as Pedro was most likely his choice it throws the whole process in jeopardy do we press ahead and appoint.? Surely the new DOF when we find one will want his own choice and not someone else's! And whoever we appoint as DOF will know he was second choice not a nice way to start off in new role !!!

Aye but it came out a couple of nights ago that he'd actually left and was allowed to cut short his notice period. It was a few hours after it became knowledge that Wilson said no so I just put 2+2 together. I'm sure someone said, might have been the Dude that both Wilson and Mitchell were happy to work with Pedro. I'd be gutted and pissed off if it's Mullholland or McLeish ffs

Sweetheart 8,458
Rangers target Pedro Caixinha takes charge of RESERVES in desert as compensation wrangle stalls Ibrox deal Caixinha had originally hoped to arrive in Scotland no later than yesterday, but whether or not he makes it for the Celtic clash remains up in the air. Pedro Caixinha will be stuck in the desert taking charge of Al-Gharafa’s second-string today instead of flying to Glasgow to prepare for Sunday’s Old Firm showdown. Record Sport revealed yesterday that the 46-year-old had put his travel plans on hold for at least 24 hours after the bid to appoint him as the 16th manager in Rangers’ history stalled unexpectedly. It’s understood the delay centres around the size of the compensation package which would be due to the Qatari club and also to Caixhina who is prepared to rip up the remainder of his £2million-a-year contract in order to get to Glasgow as quickly as possible. Caixhina had originally hoped to arrive in Scotland no later than yesterday to give him enough time to get his ideas across to the players at the club’s Auchenhowie HQ before leading them across the city to take on Celtic in Sunday’s lunchtime derby. But he was still holed up on the Persian Gulf last night having agreed to take charge of today’s Al-Gharafa’s reserves for a game against league rivals Umm Salal. After that, Caixinha’s next move will depend entirely upon whether or not Rangers can finalise a package to get him to Glasgow in time for the weekend. Sources in Qatar believe Al-Gharafa’s top brass have already begun searching for a replacement in the belief that Caixinha is unlikely to return to the club. Record Sport understands Caixhina has a long standing booking in place to fly to Lisbon tomorrow where he was scheduled to spend a week long family break - on flights which it’s believed were reserved weeks before Rangers made their initial move to make him Mark Warburton’s replacement. But our source said: “After the second team game on Wednesday the season in Qatar stops for a month. "Pedro had already booked flights to return to Portugal for a holiday but this arrangement was made several weeks ago. “But the talks about moving to Rangers have been continuing over the past few days and the situation is becoming clearer. It’s still possible he will be in Glasgow before the weekend but we’ll have to wait and see.” Rangers had hoped to have a director of football in place over the weekend but top target Ross Wilson remains in his post as head of recruitment at Southampton having turned the Ibrox club down last night. The Rangers board also held talks with Paul Mitchell of Spurs who has now been released from working down his notice period at White Hart Lane. Mitchell - who was also formerly at Southampton -.has been credited with unearthing a number of stars including Sadio Mane, Dusan Tadic and Dele Alli could provide Rangers with a ready made alternative to Wilson but sources close to the star-finder believe he too sees his future in the English top flight. http://www.<No links to this website>/sport/football/rangers-target-pedro-caixinha-takes-9984901
