The people who always talk about glorious failure are the same ones all over social media just now thanking Clarke for restoring pride and taking them there as if that was all that mattered. Like somebody said earlier on, half that team play in the Premier League these days, which is as good as it gets and worse sides than Scotland have made it to and out of group stages at these tournaments. It’s the losers mentality and borderline celebration of mediocrity that lets them down as much as anything else (the lack of a centre forward who can put the ball in the net doesn’t help either).
