The Future

Long winded post alert -

Usually negative from me. But no suprises from today, a group of players that have constantly bottled it when it matters despite European exploits.

Full clearout of Gerrard era required.

McGregor, 1 season too many, still pulls of a world class save now and then, but his age has cost us many times this season, reluctant to move of his line. His reflexes fat too slow. McLaughlin must come in now. Wouldnt be shocked too McCrorie end up at Hearts or such like too and haunt us in years to come.

Tavernier, has a future with us, his stats dont lie, will stick up for him based on his recent run where him and morelos carried us. Will be a better player under a commanding centre half who can cause calmness. Change of captaincy required however but dont see him staying if tgats the case.

Goldson, scored a important goal at Dundee to cling us on, but should have been sold in August. Exspect the media to confirm hus departure to a midlands club in the next few weeks.

Balogun, 4th choice and backup, would give another season.

Bassey, never hides, has alot to learn, again will become better player with calm centre halfs around him, highlight of the season. If only we had a squad who fight like him with aggression and desire.

Lundstrum, my motm today for us, hands held high, has whats required to sit in the role and do what he does, found aggression and knows whats exspected.

Jack, needs to stay injury free until the summer, needs to put club before country to prolong his career.

Ramsey, been a failure overall, has not got 90 mins in him, will play for lower end premier league team next season. Failed experiment.

Aribo, will try say as less as possible, angered me today, continues to play dezpite no form in 3 months. Must be sold at highest point.

Kent, trys like a warrior but lacks in end product, may be better with flair players with his football brain around him.

Roofe, has spent akot time injured in his time here, has not lived up to his price tag. Cant see where he fits in the team in a starting 11 jersey.

Players out -

Mcgregor( retired) if not must be released.

Barasic, be very lucky to get his fee back, first player out the door, downed tools along time ago.

Goldson- chasing money in the midlands, non committed, has that mistake in him, should never have been allowed to run his contract down. No injuries is the reason he has lasted so long here.

Kamara- not the player required for the trenches and winning titles, like a few, struggles with the crowd and exspectation, weak and easy target for bullies in the spl.

Roofe, injury prone, doesnt have it to be a starting 11 player.

Morelos, massive loss, will be away to highest bidder. Our best player and biggest asset.

Itten, big waste of money. Wrong league, no idea what he offers.

jack simpson, league 1 player, warburton type signing, crazy.

Ofoborh - 2 years, no apperances, the money train and medical department must answer.

Davis, obviously finished says Gio. Think he could play part till end of season if needs be in game management. Retires end of the season.

Arfield, need some sort of Rangers minded presence, worth a year in the background.

Diallo, his signing must see wilson brought to task, wouldnt suprise me if lowry asked to leave also. Not learned from signing ojos, ejaras, league 1 english standard loans.

Lowry and McCann must be blooded here now going forward.

Lowry will look to leave if likes of half a season Aribo continues to play.

Put me in a real downer this has, upto 8000 bears going to Braga too this coming week, alot of this squad doesnt deserve that IMO.

We can't afford a total clearout sadly. We will need to sell the sellable assets and keep the rest to bolster the squad.

With no money we will need to bank a fraction of what we get from the sales and try to work miracles.

On the plus side, our squad players like Sands, Sakala and Wright will probably start to earn their way as they become first choice players next year.

Every single one out of contract we need to move on. Balogun there's an argument for, but I'd just bite the bullet and chase them all.

Can’t read all that mate unfortunately. My summary: from the back 5 week need at least 5 new players - a new goalkeeper (starting), 3 centre backs and a left back. That for me shows just how fucking much of a rebuild we have to on our hands. This squad peaked last year. We are on the decline.

We don't have the money for a rebuild, and will have to rely on the money from players we sell. So, it will be bargain basement again, selling 4 players, and trying to bring in 8 mor from that money.

Champions League automatic group stage entry was our golden goose, we fucked it.

We have just handed them £40m plus , the future is bleak. Only way we could possibly compete now is win the UEFA , and with the serial losers we have in that defence its never going to happen.

Or somehow negotiate the qualifiers in the summer without half our squad...

Getting through qualifying next year would also help, but the timing of setting budgets would be a nightmare.

They can account for getting about £20m in for sure. Another £20m if we dont qualify.

We have to go into the qualifiers assuming that we aint getting through, so go with a weakened squad, making it less likely we will get through.

If by some miracle we do make it through, we only have a very short time to buy quality players with the windfall, otherwise we go half a season with a bargain basement squad.

Let go the ones out of contract. McGregor, Balogun, Goldson, Davis and Arfield.

Then to fund a rebuild going to need to sell assets. In a bad way here as Kent, Morelos and Aribo are in last year.

Essentially needing a new spine in the team GK, CB, CM and CF.

Another way to compete is to qualify for Champions League next season

A rebuild was always coming this Summer, but now we are going to be doing it on a shoestring while trying flog the majority of assets because their contracts are going into their final years.

Fully expecting next season to be a complete 2003-04 like non event.

It's a good job we've largely become accustomed to seasons being non events.
