Don't look like scoring many

Even in the first Gerrard year we were much more entertaining, aggressive and threatening than now. Our poor finishing was the issue then.

We lack the spark of previous seasons. Big players like morelos and Kent not doing nearly enough.

What is the solution for next few games?

It's not just tonight its all season.

I think our biggest issue is we are set up now to simply get the ball out wide and get crosses in. Very rarely see us going through the middle. It's failure by design.

The idea of our system is the two inside tens play inside and leave the space out wide for the fullbacks as an OPTION. Right now that's our only option.

The biggest setup issue for me is we are playing far too deep. Like 25/30 yards too deep. Our high press which gave us so much last season and in Europe the last couple seasons is gone. When we get the ball back we are so deep we are just getting it wide and hitting it up the line and then it's coming straight back to us.

Alfredo Morelos fc again.

Agree, but Morelos isn't the same either. Lacks appetite to get on the end of things. Previously when he wasn't scoring he was (frustratingly) missing sitters. He's no where near it now. 1 goal this season, utter shite.

Just think we lack the energy and legs we used to have. We haven’t been a high pressing team in any way since the first half of last season. Maybe this squad have been in too many wars now, so to speak. If you can stomach it, go and watch the highlights of the Betfred Cup final from 2019. We don’t have that level of performance or aggression in us anymore.

With hindsight, I think everyone accepts we probably could have done with moving on one of our valuable assets and refreshing things a bit. But that’s gone now, and the management team need to get every last bit out of what we have because missing out on automatic Champions League just isn’t an option.

Agree. We probably hit the right balance first half of last season, we probably played with too much fire at times before and reacted bad at anything going wrong.

Is it a mental thing do the players not want to be too emotional? Is it tactical because it seems it to me.

Or is it two veteren mainstays are even older. Our prime age players borna tav goldson etc are looking slightly worse. Our younger ones morelos, Kent etc haven't improved as we hoped and are actually currently playing worse than before? And even then, they were young not so much now, are we lacking young hungry players now?

I mean in fairness, they could probably use a holding player, because their defence is fucking woeful and they're going to concede loads of goals against any half decent side.

We absolutely need to take the handbrake off and change our own play though. We look so safe, disjointed and laboured - we're not pressing aggressively, we're not breaking through lines, we don't look confident or assured, and there seems to be no spark or creativity at all. Maybe a move away from a 4-3-3 - like last year where we moved to a 4-2-3-1 for a while - is what we need.

It’s all hard viewing just now and I don’t go into any weekend confident of a victory.  Constant chopping and changing of the team or personnel hasn’t helped but we need to find something soon with fixtures that come in Oct.

McGregor playing as the ‘holder’ domestically for them shows how you get away with it here, they get found out when they step up a level. Playing Davis, Kamara and Lundstram in the same team and then Aribo shitting it every time he got the ball will never, ever work.  Face ache Turnbull is pish hyped up here but he’ll easily reach double figures in goals, who in our midfield will return that?
