I think Gerrard forced this guy to go with him

I think Villa wanted Gerrard and his full team, the package sort of style.

I do think Michael Beale feels more shitey about how things played out in the end.

whats that tune that playing over the PA system at the end? one mintute it sounds like the remix stick song and then it sounds like one of scooters tunes.

just watched the full game back, it looked like the good ole days of pressing and closing down we used yo do before for whatever reason we changed it this season, i thought the lads were outstanding tonight and hope that last night was the catalyst to kick on our season.

I have to admit I thought Bassey was immense last night.

Far too many on here we’re giving it ‘bassey oh dear’ and ‘we won’t win now’

The big man gave them a big slice of the old humble pie, probably played the best of the back 4.

Some on here are hellbent on slaughtering the big man every chance they get.

He was superb again last night and if he plays long enough beside a decent CB he could easily be used there more often. The boy is only 20 and if he progresses the way he is hes going to make us a fortune.

The Giovanni song got old very fucking quickly.

thought we played our best stuff all season last night in the first half and periods of the second. Kent was lethal in getting through them and defence were solid. Waned in the final 15 but for only a few days worth of time with them, GVB has definitely sparked a few of the players into life.

and those saves from McGregor

I think he’s 22 next month. He’s been poor more times than he’s been good.  Last night he was excellent. Perhaps he’s a LCB instead of a LB. plays like he did last night he could make that position his own.

That’s the GvB era off to a winning start, with a bit of progress to the next stage thrown in👏👏👏

Aided by the strangest goal I’ve ever seen (well done Alf, for being on the spot!) and a welcome return to form from Shagger!

I loved that double save at the end!

Us football fans can be fickle as fuck(I KNOW ITS ONLY ONE GAME) Morelos looked like he enjoyed that last night, back to running the channels harassing bullying defenders and being a nuisance, the cynic in me is saying he wasn't enjoying playing under Gerrard, what a difference in his attitude and allround game. wingers playing like wingers and not over complicating things. this game should've been over at half time. was a very good team performance and how we should be performing, i dont like saying this after one game but i think we've got a upgrade in management. When Gerrard left i said on here i wasn't worried  about him leaving, a blind man could see there was problems and IMO it was for the best for the team.

If last night is anything to go by, we might finally see the likes of Kent, Sakala & Wright be given the freedom to exploit teams with their pace. Seeing the team overload the wide areas last night was so refreshing to see and Sparta were chasing shadows all night, leaving huge gaps on the edge of their area.

Domestically, how many times have we watched teams happily usher us out wide because they knew we’d take an age to turn back inside, recycle the ball and let them reshape?

I loved the directness, I loved the aggressive overlaps, I loved the deep runs into the box, and I love Alfredo Morelos playing as a fucking 9.

You don’t really make that much less if you compete in the bargain basement Europa tournament which is disappointing.
