celtic Boys' Club founder Jim Torbett to face sex abuse trial

Published

The founder of celtic Boys' Club will stand trial next year accused of the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy more than 50 years ago.

Jim Torbett, 75, denies committing the attacks in Glasgow between June 1967 and December 1968.

The High Court in Glasgow heard the abuse is said to have carried on until the boy was 14.

The alleged offences occurred in a toyshop in Maryhill, a car in Drumchapel and a flat in Sighthill.

Mr Torbett was not present for the hearing but pled not guilty to four charges through his defence counsel, Jim Keegan QC.

Prosecutor Owen Mullan told Judge Lady Drummond that the Crown was ready for trial.

A six-day trial was fixed for April at the High Court in Inverness.

Getting on a bit

9:34 PM - 1 day ago#183764

I have been living in Turkey for the last 2 years and have a season ticket for Besiktas.

We are absolutely delighted to get more than £1m for the boy, he is woeful.

Word is that we are being paid in 4 instalments with the Turkish lira which as you may know has annual inflation of about 120%. So it is actually only around £2.5 million we get which makes more sense.

The add ons are also at the end and agreed in lira. Compounded reduction of > 85%

and there was a poster on FF saying he talked to one of them and he came away with something about dave vos  making sure ajax paid all that money

i'll be honest i barely knew who vos is let alone anyone of their coaches they really are obsessed

If there's any evidence needed about how the Scottish press favour them over us look at how boruc has been reported on retiring. Its actually mental that someone has been away from Scottish football for so long is getting so much coverage.

Like how he knocked back world class sides like Man City in 2006 who were managed by Stuart Pearce at the time

He was the holie goalie after all. Honestly there heroes are made up of a bunch of  characateurs. If you dissected there support, team, stadium, fans and history it's actually laughable.
