POLICE have launched an investigation after Dundee star Leigh Griffiths kicked a smoke bomb which had been thrown onto the playing surface back into the crowd.

The on-loan Celtic star kicked the firework at the St Johnstone fans as his team crashed out of the Premier Sports Cup.

But a police spokesperson said NO injuries or complaints had been reported at this stage.

The spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident involving a small number of smoke devices at Dens Park, during the match between Dundee and St Johnstone Football Clubs on Wednesday, 22 September.

"There were no injuries and no complaints have been made to police at this stage.

"Enquiries into the matter are ongoing."

Griffiths reacted after a pyrotechnic was thrown onto the pitch after the holders had taken the lead at Dens Park

.Griffiths, who was abused constantly by the visiting fans during the 2-0 defeat, is almost certainly going to be hauled before the Hampden beaks

If he thinks he's got it bad from the St Johnstone fans just wait until he comes up against us.

Every clubs fanbase should be giving that nonce abuse.

Cunt will go AWOL for our game mate.

.....he was just clearing the firework/flare from the pitch, looking after players safety and wellbeing. He should actually be commended for his actions. Unfortunately the clip of the boot was a little to much and more than Mr Griffiths expected, the weight of the can to weight of kick ratio.

Mr Griffiths takes full responsibility for his actions, and is sorry for any injury, worry or concerns his actions may have caused, this was certainly not the intention.
